About the Artist

Miao Zaixin is one of the most decorated figure painters in contemporary China — winner of the Grand Gold Prize of the China Art Award for his masterpiece “Snow Wolf Commando” at the 11th National Art Exhibition. A National First-Class Artist proficient in both Chinese painting and calligraphy, he is a leading creator of major national historical paintings.

Artist Introduction

Miao Zaixin (苗再新) was born in 1953 in Qixia, Shandong Province, and graduated from the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art. He is a research artist of the Chinese Painting Creation Institute of the China Art Research Institute, a member of the China Artists Association, a council member of the China Calligraphers Association, a professor at its training centre, a council member of the Beijing Artists Association, and a National First-Class Artist. His representative work “Snow Wolf Commando” won the Grand Gold Prize of the inaugural China Art Award and the gold medal of the 11th National Art Exhibition; “Men of Passion” won the silver medal of the 9th National Art Exhibition; “Teacher and Student” was an award-winning work of the 8th National Art Exhibition; and “Angels in the World” won the silver medal of the 2nd National Chinese Painting Exhibition. His works have received dozens of national awards. He has been selected for the National Project of Major Historical Themes and the Chinese Civilisation Historical Themes Project; his paintings including “Marx Writing the Communist Manifesto”, “The Meeting of the Long March Forces at Jinggangshan” and “Long March Suite” are held by the National Museum of China, the National Art Museum of China, the Military Museum and the Great Hall of the People. He works in both Chinese painting and oil painting, and his realist figure paintings are celebrated for their powerful composition, psychological depth and epic vision.
