About the Artist

Fan Jinling is a meticulous gongbi painter of the Northern school, heir to the refined tradition of Chen Shaomei and the great masters of the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties. His precise brushwork and classical compositions — landscapes, figures and antiquarian scenes — have earned him recognition as one of the most promising traditional painters of his generation.

Artist Introduction

Fan Jinling (范金岭), also known by his art names Qizhi and Songshi Jushi, was born in 1967 in the countryside of northern Tianjin. A member of the Tianjin Artists Association and a leading painter of the China Inscription Network, he showed a passion for painting in primary school, copying countless illustrated classics such as “Dream of the Red Chamber” and “Romance of the Three Kingdoms”. From his teens he copied the works of the modern master Chen Shaomei and, under the guidance of Wang Chunjing, mastered the techniques of the Northern school. For thirty years he has followed a discipline of copying and creating hand in hand, systematically studying the Five Dynasties and Northern Song masters Jing Hao, Li Cheng and Fan Kuan, the Southern Song Four Masters, and the great Yuan, Ming and Qing painters Ni Zan, Tang Yin, Qiu Ying and Yuan Jiang — copying their works thousands of times until their compositional structures and formats were thoroughly absorbed. His own paintings, such as “Antiquarian Scene in the Western Garden”, “In Memory of Xunyang”, “Cloud Forest Washing the Paulownia” and “Pine Music in the Breeze”, are widely collected in China and abroad. He has been featured in special reports by Tianjin’s “Evening News”, Tianjin Television and Radio, and his works are praised by experts for their authentic traditional craftsmanship and their promising appreciation potential.
