Guo Hongxing – Chinese Painter

About the Artist

Guo Hongxing is a military painter whose monumental depictions of the Great Wall and frontier landscapes have made him one of the most recognised names in Chinese landscape art. A member of the China Artists Association with a master’s degree from the PLA Academy of Art, he studied under Liu Dawei, Li Xiang and Yuan Wu — his works are used as textbook models in fine art academies.

Artist Introduction

Guo Hongxing (郭红星), also known as Linxi with the courtesy name Ruofu, was born in Handan, Hebei Province, and now lives in Beijing. He graduated from the fine arts department of the People’s Liberation Army Academy of Art with a master’s degree. He is a member of the China Artists Association, a council member of the China Fine Brushwork Painting Society and of the Chinese Painting Association, a research fellow of the Hebei Academy of Painting, a guest professor at Tsinghua University and Capital Normal University, and Vice-President of the Singapore Chinese Painting Academy. He studied under the masters Liu Dawei, Li Xiang and Yuan Wu. His works have been selected and awarded in numerous national exhibitions, and his paintings “Iron Ridge” and “Cold Moon at the Frontier Pass” have been chosen as model plates for fine art academy textbooks. He has participated in major national and military themed creation projects, and his works are collected by the China Artists Association, the National Art Museum of China, the Great Hall of the People and the Bayi Building of the Central Military Commission. In 2023 he held solo and group exhibitions at the National Art Museum of China, the Yan Huang Art Museum and other venues, with features on CCTV and China Education Television. His paintings “Ode to the Red Mountain” and “Pine Sounds in Cloud Valleys” sold for a combined RMB 1.92 million at the Yachang spring auction in 2021. His representative works include “Cold Moon at the Frontier Pass”, “Iron Ridge” and “Glorious Years”.
