About the Artist

Linghu Weipeng is a painter and calligrapher in the direct lineage of Liu Wenxi, founder of the Loess School and creator of the portrait of Chairman Mao on China’s fifth-series renminbi banknotes. A graduate of the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts and Vice-Chairman of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, he unites the grand realist tradition of the northwest with elegant classical brushwork.

Artist Introduction

Linghu Weipeng (令狐伟鹏), art name Longhua and courtesy name Zhixu, is from Yuncheng, Shanxi — the ancient region of Hedong. He graduated from the Chinese painting department of the Xi’an Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under Liu Wenxi, founder of the Loess School and the artist who painted the portrait of Chairman Mao used on China’s fifth-series banknotes. He is now a celebrated painter and calligrapher, a contract artist of the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, a lecturer at the Calligraphy and Painting Association of the State Organs Administration, Vice-Chairman of the China Calligraphers and Painters Association, President of the Longhua Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, and Chief Tutor of the Wubentang Academy. His Chinese paintings and calligraphy are widely loved by collectors, and he is one of the ten most popular artists at Badouyuan. In January 2024 his solo exhibition opened at the Renmin Meishu Art Museum under the theme “Learning from the Ancients, Opening the New; Reverence for Truth, Admiration of Beauty”, co-hosted by the museum with Badouyuan and the Wubentang Academy. His works are collected by the People’s Fine Arts Publishing House, which also issued him a collection certificate, and he has received widespread media coverage and the enthusiastic support of collectors from across China.
