About the Artist

Liu Mingjie is a Guilin-born painter of archaistic landscape painting — the tradition of reinterpreting ancient masters in living brushwork. His works, praised for their “vivid rhythm and spirit” (qiyun shengdong), carry collectors into the poetic world of classical Chinese mountains and waters with contemporary freshness.

Artist Introduction

Liu Mingjie (刘名杰) was born in Guilin, Guangxi — a landscape famed throughout China for its karst peaks and rivers — and graduated from the fine arts department of the Guangxi Academy of Arts. He is a member of the Guangxi Branch of the China Artists Association, a council member of the Gaizhou Municipal Artists Association, Vice-President of the Wanfu Chishan Painting and Calligraphy Academy, Vice-Chairman of the Northern Folk Painting and Calligraphy Exchange Association, and a National First-Class Artist. His landscape paintings are deeply loved by collectors. Within the great tradition of Chinese landscape painting, he belongs to the archaistic school — artists who follow the essence of classical brush and ink, “studying the ancients without being enslaved by them”, and open their own path by borrowing from the past to create the new. Viewing his archaistic landscapes, one immediately feels the unique charm of brush rhythm and colour. The most striking quality of his work is “vivid rhythm and spirit” — the “rhythm of life” rendered visible, in which every formal element coheres into a seamless, heaven-made whole.
