About the Artist

Tan Zhengyi is a young Guizhou landscape painter who brings the dramatic scenery of southwest China — red cliffs, layered peaks and misty rivers — into the classical ink tradition. A graduate of the Guizhou Minzu University Academy of Fine Arts, he blends realistic observation with ancient brush language in works praised for their clarity and quiet grandeur.

Artist Introduction

Tan Zhengyi (谭政义) is a young Chinese landscape painter. He is a member of the Guizhou Provincial Artists Association, a member of the Guizhou Chinese Painting Society, and a specially invited artist of the Youth Painting Academy of the Guizhou Provincial Art Museum. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts of Guizhou Minzu University, specialising in traditional ink landscape painting, and his works chiefly depict the regional scenery of Guizhou. His art is founded on traditional ink techniques, with particular mastery of the landscape four-panel format (180×45 cm per panel); he places great emphasis on the vitality of painting from life. His representative works include “A Dwelling Hidden in the Mountains” (68×136 cm), which builds a three-dimensional composition of layered ridges and peaks; “Spring Breeze Returns to the South of the River” (180×70 cm), which fuses poetic conception with ink technique; and “In the Brush Spirit of the Yellow Mountain Hermit” (45×75 cm). His paintings combine realism, a fusion of ancient and modern, and a clear, luminous personal manner, and are much loved by collectors. His work “Western Red Crag” depicts the magnificent red-cliff landscapes of the west with vigorous brushwork — towering crag peaks set against ancient trees, with village dwellings and winding paths below, capturing both the raw grandeur of nature and a sense of human habitation.
