About the Artist

An Wenli is Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Calligraphers Association and a council member of the China Calligraphers Association. As one of the most accomplished female calligraphers in China, she is known for her refined brushwork and for works that have won national awards and entered the collections of the National Art Museum of China and the National Museum of China.

Artist Introduction

An Wenli (安文丽) is Chairman of the Gansu Provincial Calligraphers Association and a council member of the China Calligraphers Association. She began her calligraphy career in 1988. Her works have won third prizes at the 3rd National Women’s Calligraphy Exhibition and the 1st National Large-Character Calligraphy Art Exhibition, a first prize at the graduation exhibition of the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Correspondence University, and third prizes at the 4th Dunhuang Literary and Art Calligraphy Exhibition of Gansu Province, the 4th Provincial Youth Calligraphy Exhibition, and the 3rd and 4th National Women’s Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibitions. Her works have been selected for the 8th and 9th National Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibitions, the “Thousand People, Thousand Works” and “Five Hundred Masters” fine-art exhibitions, and numerous other national shows. Her calligraphy is held in the collections of the National Art Museum of China, the National Museum of China and the National Museum of Chinese Writing. Her works have also been published in leading journals including “Chinese Calligraphy”, “Calligraphy” and “Calligraphy Herald”. As one of the few women to lead a provincial calligraphers association, she is widely regarded as a representative figure of contemporary female calligraphy in China.
