Artist Introduction

Wu Jingyan is a master of freehand flower-and-bird painting in the tradition of Wang Peidong, celebrated for his bold, vigorous brushwork and his renowned plum blossoms. A graduate of the Beijing Academy of Painting and National First-Class Artist, he combines the energy of xieyi expression with modern sensibility — his works collected by dignitaries and connoisseurs across the world. Artist Introduction Wu Jingyan (吴景砚), also known as Jingyan with the art name Yushi, was born in 1962 in Gu’an County, Hebei Province. He graduated from the Beijing Academy of Painting, where he studied under the celebrated contemporary master Wang Peidong, and also benefited from the personal guidance of Wang Mingming, Yang Yanwen, Guo Shifu and Li Xiaoke. He is a member of the Hebei Provincial Artists Association, a painter of the Wang Peidong Studio of the Beijing Academy of Painting, a member of the China Folk Artists Association, a specially invited painter of the Beijing CPPCC Academy of Painting and Calligraphy, and a National First-Class Artist. Fascinated by painting and calligraphy from childhood, he devoted himself to the study of colour and light in Chinese freehand painting, finding his subjects in the life around him.
