About the Artist

Luo Meifu is a Chinese calligrapher of rare diplomatic pedigree — former Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the National Audit Office and former Vice-Chairman of the Central State Organs Calligraphers Association. He is best known for his distinctive ‘Chinese-English twin writing’, inscribing Chinese and English in one work to carry Chinese civilization across languages.

Artist Introduction

Luo Meifu, male, was born in 1947 in Sichuan Province. He served as former Director of the Foreign Affairs Department of the National Audit Office of the People’s Republic of China, and is a council member of the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs. He is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, former Vice-Chairman and Secretary-General of the Central State Organs Calligraphers Association, Vice-Chairman of the China Audit Calligraphers Association, Vice-President of the Chinese Painting Academy and Vice-President of the Chinese Generals’ Poetry, Calligraphy and Painting Research Institute. His works have been awarded in numerous national and international exhibitions and are collected in Japan, South Korea, India, the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Italy, Russia, Australia, Singapore, Ukraine and other countries. He has planned and organized many landmark exhibitions, including the China-Japan-Korea Audit Photography and Calligraphy Exhibition shown in Beijing, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong and Macao (2002), the Calligraphy Exhibition of Ministers of the Republic marking the 60th anniversary of the PRC (2009), the ‘Emotion for China’ calligraphy exhibition held with the European Chinese Calligraphers Association in Beijing and Rome (2010), where his own work won the silver award, and the ‘Hundred Ministers and Generals Calligraphy Exhibition’ hosted by the China Calligraphers Association. In recent years he has explored writing Chinese and English side by side within a single work, winning wide acclaim from Chinese and foreign audiences.
