Peng Shaohui (彭少辉)
Peng Shaohui – Chinese Seal Carver
About the Artist
Peng Shaohui is a seal carving artist in the refined “gongwen” tradition — steady, elegant and meticulously composed. A student of the celebrated master Gao Qingchun and an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, he carves classical literary themes into precious stones such as tianhuang, creating seals that unite scholarly taste with exquisite craftsmanship.
Artist Introduction
Peng Shaohui (彭少辉) is a seal carving artist from Shangqiu, Henan Province. He studied under the celebrated master Gao Qingchun and is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, a council member of the Yingtian Seal Society, and Vice-Chairman of the Liangyuan District Calligraphers Association of Shangqiu. Active in the art world as an inheritor of intangible cultural heritage, his works fuse traditional technique with the refined taste of the literati. His seals have been selected for the 8th National Seal Carving Art Exhibition and the 3rd Cross-Strait Youth Seal Carving Competition. His works frequently draw on classical literature: his celebrated series “Su Dongpo’s Sixteen Delightful Moments” comprises sixteen seals — “Rowing on Clear Streams in Shallow Water”, “Playing the Flute for the Eastern Neighbour Beneath the Moon” and the like — carved in precious stones including Laotian tianhuang and Qingtian yanmen crystal, mostly 1.5 to 3.2 centimetres in size, displaying exquisite miniaturist technique. His seal work pays great attention to composition and to the details of the knife, embodying the steady, elegant gongwen style of scholarly seal carving. As a heritage inheritor, he has brought seal carving into schools — lecturing on its history and techniques at the Guide Academy with live demonstrations to inspire young people’s interest in traditional art — and he actively advocates the transmission and innovation of this intangible craft among the younger generation.
