About the Artist

Wang Dan is one of the leading figures of contemporary Chinese seal carving and calligraphy. As Vice-Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association and Director of its Seal Carving Committee, he represents the authoritative mainstream of the art, with a body of work that spans seal carving, ceramic seals, finger painting and calligraphy.

Artist Introduction

Wang Dan was born in 1963 and holds the title of National First-Class Artist. He is Vice-Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association and Director of its Seal Carving Committee, a member of the National Committee of the CPPCC and of the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Vice-Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, Honorary Chairman of the Liaoning Provincial Calligraphers Association, a council member of the Xiling Seal Art Society, and a research fellow of the China Academy of Painting and Calligraphy and the Chinese Seal Carving Academy of the China Art Research Institute, as well as Vice-Chairman of the Jinzhou Municipal Federation of Literary and Art Circles. He is the author of major albums including ‘Seal Carvings of Wang Dan’ (published in Japan), ‘Chinese Seals, Ceramic Seals, Painting and Calligraphy of Wang Dan’ (Xiling Seal Art Society Press) and ‘Selected Seal Carvings of Wang Dan’ (Rongbaozhai Press). He has held the Wang Dan Gold-Stone Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition and the Wang Dan Painting, Calligraphy and Seal Carving Exhibition, and is also an accomplished finger painter whose works combine seal-carving strength with literati elegance.
