About the Artist

Qi Zhenjian is a National First-Class Artist and designated supplier of Chinese state gifts, celebrated for his mastery of bangshu — the grand large-character calligraphy of plaques and monuments. His works, collected by the National Museum of China and presented to heads of state and foreign governments, combine majestic presence with refined classical learning.

Artist Introduction

Qi Zhenjian (齐贞俭), art name Mo Yi Ren and sobriquet Huo Mo, was born in June 1960 in Jinzhou, Hebei Province, and now lives in Beijing. He is a state-gift-designated artist of China, a National First-Class Artist, a senior registered teacher of the China Calligraphers Association, a member of the Central State Organs Calligraphers Association, a member of the Chinese Couplet Society, an academician of the Vancouver Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Academy, and a member of the China Bangshu Art Research Society. Fascinated by painting and calligraphy from childhood, he studied the styles of famous masters past and present, seeking both resolute, lofty strength and free-flowing grandeur — with particular interest in seal, clerical, regular, running and cursive scripts as well as bangshu. His principle is “do some things, refrain from others”, pursuing harmony, vitality, unity and individuality in spirit, energy, rhythm, method and meaning. His works have won gold and silver prizes in numerous national competitions, are collected by government agencies, enterprises and overseas friends, and are designated collection pieces of the Sino-European Business Association. His “Heart Sutra” is in the collection of former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, his “Eagle” is held by the German former defence minister’s office and the Kyrgyzstan Prime Minister’s Office, and his “Mao Zedong’s ‘Snow’ in the Mode of Qinyuanchun” is in the collection of the National Museum of China. He is also the author of works recorded in major art yearbooks and investment guides.
