About the Artist
Wang Jiaxin is a leading figure of contemporary Chinese calligraphy — former Vice-Chairman of the China Calligraphers Association, Vice-Dean of the Calligraphy and Seal Carving Academy of the China National Academy of Painting, and a council member of the China Artists Association. His calligraphy combines classical depth with poetic sensibility, placing him among the most representative calligraphers of his generation.
Artist Introduction
Wang Jiaxin (王家新), also known by his studio names Yanyuan and Zhitang, was born in 1967. He served as Vice-Chairman of the 6th China Calligraphers Association and Director of its Regular Script Committee and Youth Work Committee, and is a council member of the China Artists Association, Vice-Dean of the Calligraphy and Seal Carving Academy of the China National Academy of Painting, a council member of the Xiling Seal Art Society, and a standing council member of the Chinese Poetry Society. His works are held by Zhongnanhai, the Great Hall of the People, the National Museum of China, the Palace Museum, the National Library of China and the National Art Museum of China, and have been carved into stone at numerous famous steles sites. His calligraphy has been selected for nearly a thousand exhibitions at home and abroad, and he has served as deputy chief and chief juror of the China Calligraphy Lanting Award and the national calligraphy exhibitions. He has been honoured as one of the “Top Ten Young Calligraphers of China” and one of the “Top Ten Annual Figures of Chinese Calligraphy”. He edited the “Complete Collection of Deng Shiru’s Calligraphy and Seal Carving” and the “Complete Collection of Mi Fu’s Calligraphy”, and published poetry collections, calligraphy albums and scholarly works including “The Economics of Art”. In 2025 his “Selected Fine Calligraphy of Wang Jiaxin” opened at the Taiwenlou Calligraphy Museum in Beijing’s Liulichang cultural district.
