China-Kazakhstan Martial Arts Showcase Held in Astana

On June 10, 2026, a China-Kazakhstan martial arts showcase, titled “Martial Arts Charm · Dialogue of Civilizations,” was held at the Kazakh National Sports University in Astana. The event drew some 200 local coaches, athletes and enthusiasts, along with Chinese Ambassador to Kazakhstan Han Chunlin, cultural counselor Cui Yinglan and Wang Qingping, director of the China Cultural Center in Astana. Senior officials of Kazakhstan’s sports administration and university leadership also attended.

From Lecture to Performance

Professor Zhu Dong of Shanghai University of Sport opened the program with a lecture tracing the development of Chinese martial arts and their deep cultural value. He explained the philosophy at the heart of tai chi — the balance of yin and yang and the harmony of humanity and nature — and its benefits for health and character, showing how traditional martial arts can enrich modern life.

Performances followed. Tai chi and push-hands routines flowed with slow, graceful control, while broadsword, spear, sword and staff forms displayed strength and precision. Together they presented both the technical beauty and the cultural depth of Chinese martial arts. Chinese and Kazakh guests watched the showcase side by side, and many participants tried their first tai chi moves during the interactive session.

Tradition Meets Technology

A novel AI interactive zone let participants have their movements scored by smart recognition technology and receive guidance on technique — a striking combination of ancient martial arts and modern digital tools that drew eager crowds.

Teaching Exchange Continues

On June 11 and 12, the delegation traveled to the headquarters of the Kazakhstan Wushu and Kung Fu Association to co-host teaching exchanges with local masters, attracting many martial arts enthusiasts.

The event was jointly organized by the China Center for International Cultural and Tourism Exchange, the China Cultural Center in Astana, the Chinese Wushu Association, the Kazakhstan Wushu and Kung Fu Association and the Kazakh National Sports University.
