Era of the Greater Bay Area Art Show Opens in Shenzhen

“Era of the Greater Bay Area” (Shidai Wanqu), an exhibition of contemporary Chinese painting and oil painting, opened on August 11, 2026 at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum in Shenzhen. The show is jointly organized by the China Artists Association, the Publicity Department of the Shenzhen Municipal Committee of the CPC, and the Futian District Government, with the CFLAC Art Center, Shenzhen’s municipal cultural and sports authorities, the Shenzhen Artists Association, and several local partners co-hosting.

From 7,000 Entries to 116 Works

Open to nationwide submissions since March 2026, the exhibition received more than 7,000 valid entries. After two rounds of rigorous review, 116 works were selected, spanning Chinese painting and oil painting. The selection reflects both the grand scale of Greater Bay Area development and the warmth of everyday urban life, blending the traditional cultural lineage with contemporary aesthetics.

Opening Ceremony

At the opening, Wang Laiwen, vice chair of the China Artists Association, conveyed congratulations on behalf of Qu Jian, executive vice chair and party secretary of the association. He praised the exhibition’s rigorous review process and the quality of its works, calling it an important platform connecting artists nationwide with the Bay Area and a boost to regional artistic integration.

Chen Xiangbo, chair of the Shenzhen Artists Association, spoke of the city’s long-running efforts to build national-level art brands and deepen cultural exchanges with Hong Kong and Macao. Zhang Hairong of the Futian District noted that the show continues the legacy of the national “Era of China” exhibition series and aligns with the cultural mission of the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area. Liu Wenbin, chair of the Shenzhen Federation of Literary and Art Circles, declared the exhibition open. The ceremony was hosted by Chen Xiangbing.

Online and On-Site

Beyond the physical galleries, the exhibition features an online virtual reality (VR) hall, allowing audiences anywhere to tour the works — an effort to break down barriers of time and space and widen access to the arts. The show runs through August 16 at the Guan Shanyue Art Museum.
