Master Calligrapher Lu Zhongnan Writes Plaque for Badou Art

Lu Zhongnan (卢中南), one of China’s most celebrated calligraphers, has written the plaque “Badou Yuan” (八斗苑) for Badou Art, the high-end commissioned calligraphy and painting brand under Wubentang (务本堂). Lu is also a long-time advisor and chief calligrapher of China Tizi Wang (中国题字网, the Chinese Inscription Network) and Badou Art, and has guided the platform’s development for years.

A Plaque in the Classical Tradition

The inscription is executed primarily in regular script (kaishu), carrying both the weight of Northern Wei stele calligraphy and the disciplined regularity of Tang-dynasty regular script. The strokes are firm and forceful, the structure dignified and balanced — a blend of classical elegance and quiet grandeur that suits a high-end cultural platform.

About the Artist

Born in Wuhan in December 1950, with ancestral roots in Jiyuan, Henan, Lu Zhongnan is a member of the China Calligraphers Association, serves as deputy director of its hard-pen calligraphy committee and a member of its regular script committee, and holds a special allowance from the State Council. He was a member of the 10th and 11th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and previously served as director of the design office and research fellow at the Military Museum of the Chinese People’s Revolution. He is also a member of the Chinese Museums Association and an advisor to the Chinese Painting and Calligraphy Masters Research Institute.

Lu’s regular script is built on the tradition of Ouyang Xun (欧阳询) with added substance and depth, and he is equally known for large-scale calligraphy, having written plaques for institutions across China. His inscription now serves as the visual signature of the Badou Art brand.
