Xia Mo: Painting Jilin’s Historic Buildings in Ink

What happens when a painter studies a city’s old buildings one by one? The exhibition *Ancient Charm, Radiant Color — Xia Mo’s Research Exhibition on Jilin City’s Historic Architecture* answers with brush and ink. Turning to the historic buildings that anchor Jilin City’s tourism, Xia Mo treats each structure not as a backdrop but as a subject worth deep, repeated study.

Xia Mo (born 1964 in Changchun, Jilin Province) graduated from the art department of Northeast Normal University and is a full-time painter at the Jilin City Painting Academy and a national second-class artist. She is a member of the China Artists Association, a distinguished researcher at the Li Keran Painting Academy, and holds leadership roles in provincial and municipal art organizations, including vice chair of the Jilin Provincial Women Artists Association and chair of the Jilin City Women Artists Association. She also teaches as a distinguished professor at the Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute — fitting for an artist whose series here moves between paper and porcelain.
