A Chinese wedding is not complete without the written word. Calligraphed blessings appear on red banners, invitations, gifts, and venue walls — and choosing the right words is a small art in itself. Badou Art has gathered 60 classic wedding inscriptions: 35 blessing phrases (tizi, 题字 — short words) and 25 couplets (tici, 题词 — verse lines), each with its meaning and best use. A note: a few favorite phrases recur in the original catalogue, so each is listed once below.

Commissioning Your Own Inscription
Many couples ask a calligrapher to write their chosen blessing by hand in a style that matches the wedding — or to compose an original poem for the occasion. Calligraphers also inscribe plaques and studio names (zhaihao) on commission.
If you’d like a hand-written wedding blessing, Badou Art’s specialists are happy to help you choose the phrase, the style, and the artist.
