Longfu Temple Spring Festival Market Draws Crowds in Beijing
As the Spring Festival approaches, the 2026 Longfu Temple New Year market in the heart of Beijing’s Dongcheng District is drawing growing crowds with the theme “Ma Bu Ting Ti, Longfu Chao Ji” (马不停蹄,隆福潮集 — Horse Never Stops, Longfu Trendy Market).
Festive Scenes on February 12
On February 12, residents browsed goods with their children at the stall of Liubiju, the condiment brand famous for its fermented sauces and pickles, while visitors posed for photos beside the *Tu’er Ye* — the rabbit-eared deity figurine that is a beloved Beijing folk symbol of good fortune, dressed for the season among the lanterns and New Year decorations.
Shops along the street were festooned with red couplets and lanterns, and the air was filled with the sounds of holiday music and family chatter as shoppers stocked up on gifts and festive foods.
New Year markets (*nianshi*) are a fixture of the Chinese Spring Festival season, offering festive goods, snacks, and performances as families prepare for the holiday. The Longfu Temple market weaves the culture of *fu* (福, blessing) through its layout as the organizing thread, with two performance spaces and 53 stalls partnering with 57 brands to create a diverse scene covering New Year shopping, hands-on experiences, and entertainment.
Supporting Holiday Consumption
Organizers say the market is designed to meet residents’ varied needs for Spring Festival purchases and outings — from festive foods and gifts to cultural performances — while giving the holiday economy a boost in the historic Longfu Temple Street area, one of Beijing’s best-known shopping streets.
The market will run through March 3, 2026, and is expected to keep welcoming visitors throughout the Spring Festival holiday period.
