Xu Kuangda: Plein-Air Paintings Celebrating Nature

The painter Xu Kuangda (academic name Xu Zhiwei, Dharma name Dada) was born in Shenyang, Liaoning Province, and has built a career on painting directly from life. A national first-class artist, he is a member of both the Chinese Artists Association and the Chinese Calligraphers Association, as well as the Russian Union of Artists and German artists’ associations. He serves as executive dean of the Beijing Songzhuang Chinese Painting Academy, is a visiting scholar of Tsinghua University’s Academy of Arts and Design, and has taught as a distinguished professor at Peking University’s Graduate School of Education and at Japan’s Sado International Design Academy.

His exhibitions have traveled widely: the Shanxi Museum, Liaoning Provincial Museum, Liaoning Provincial Art Museum and Shandong Art Museum at home, the museum of the Repin Academy of Fine Arts in Russia and a gallery in Vienna abroad, plus shows in the United States, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Taiwan and Hong Kong. At auction, his works have appeared at Beijing Poly and Beijing Hanhai, where they are eagerly sought by collectors.
