Li Shiliang Brings Ink Art to Sri Lanka’s Embassy in Beijing

On July 15, 2021, a World Youth Skills Day cultural exchange was held at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Beijing. Representatives from the Sri Lankan government, the China International Development Cooperation Agency, international organizations and businesses joined online and in person. Renowned painter Li Shiliang was a featured guest: he handed over ink portraits he had painted of Sri Lanka’s former president Mahinda Rajapaksa, which the ambassador conveyed on his behalf.

During the event Li also wrote the calligraphy piece *Silk Road Golden Bridge*, posed with the embassy’s counselor, and joined an evening reception of Sri Lankan hospitality. World Youth Skills Day, proposed by Sri Lanka’s mission to the United Nations and adopted by the UN, draws global attention to young people’s skills development and employment.

About the Artist

Li Shiliang is a director of the Artists Association of Central State Organs, vice president of the Huaqin Academy of Painting under the State Council’s logistics association, honorary president of the Weiming Academy at Peking University, and a specially engaged painter of the National Ethnic Painting Academy. He trained at the Beijing Institute of Education and the Central Academy of Fine Arts’ advanced figure-painting program, learning from masters including Zhou Sicong, Lu Chen, Tian Liming and Ma Zhensheng. His works have been selected for national and international exhibitions; in 2005 he was named one of China’s 100 outstanding contemporary artists, and in 2008 China Post issued a commemorative postcard series of his work. He regularly participates in charity and art-education programs, and his paintings are collected by government offices, foreign institutions and embassies.
